Kashmir Hands Yoga Class Descriptions

Kashmir Hands is an ALL LEVEL Yoga Studio. Please do not be intimidated from coming to any class. Modifications of postures can always be made. At Kashmir Hands you will be encouraged to challenge yourself but you will never be forced into anything.

Your practice is YOUR practice!

Hatha Basics:

This general yoga style utilizes the classical yoga postures and different sequencing depending on the instructor for the purpose of strengthening, opening, and cleansing the body. In Hatha-style classes, the poses are held by the practitioner for varying lengths of time (depending on the instructor), unlike in Vinyasa-style classes where the poses are linked and create a flowing movement from one pose to the next (see Vinyasa description below). Please note that this general-style class is conducted in a unique way by each different instructor--so Hatha with one teacher might not be the same experience as Hatha with another teacher.

Kashmir Flow:

This class is great for those new to yoga who have always wanted to try a flow yoga based class but were not sure where to begin or needed a slower pace. This class is appropriate for students new to yoga as well as for more seasoned practitioners who want to refine their technique and refresh their understanding of the fundamentals. Through mindful work and attention to the breath, students will learn safe alignment in basic postures and sun salutations. Students will build strength, flexibility, balance, and awareness to prepare to enter more advanced classes safely. Classes incorporate poses (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama), and guided meditation

Kashmir Prenatal:

Inside you is an intuitive wisdom that understands the very natural process of birth. Our classes are specifically designed to prepare the body and mind of mothers-to-be. Highly recommended by midwives, yoga keeps the body supple without straining, boosts energy, relieves stress and anxiety, and promotes restful sleep. Synchronizing these postures with your breath leads you to new awareness with your mind-body-soul & also the soul of your baby. PY classes offer women a place to relax, meet other local women and share experiences, bringing about a sense of centeredness.

Kashmir Core Power:

Is a flowing style of yoga that integrates breathwork, movement, core and arm strength awareness. This class is accompanied by a more upbeat music selection and to promote detoxification and flexibility. With moderate pacing and subtle reminders of moving from the center, we keep the body and mind fully engaged in the present moment. Our core is both our literal & energetic center of our balance and strength. Many of us shut down around this area causing back pain, mis-aligned posture, suppressed emotions, and even poor digestion. Awaken your core and strengthen your arms becoming strong & resilient both on and off your mat! (You asked for Dina's arms, here ya go!)

Kashmir Challenge:

Every level is welcome to this Kashmir Challenge class that combines dynamic breath work, movement, and deep holds with a focus on improving balance, alignment and posture. Poses are held for a longer time to delve deeper into our internal body and awareness. You will gain flexibility, as well as tone the whole body and build core strength, and will leave feeling rejuvenated and energized.

Kashmir Power Yoga:

Sweat, Surrender, Serenity! Power Yoga is a challenging vinyasa-based style of yoga focused on building heat to burn away mental, physical, and emotional toxins. We'll flow on the rhythm of the breath through Sun Salutations and use the body heat to move further within with progressively more intense poses (modified for each student). Often described as a meditation in motion, Power Yoga offers an active and intense practice meant to quiet your mind as you detoxify the body and cultivate the energy of the breath. Emphasizing safety and alignment, modifications will be offered so that everyone can work at their own pace with their own authentic breath. You will leave feeling stronger, centered and refreshed.

Kundalini Yoga & Meditation (as taught by Yogi Bhajan):

Is a dynamic form of yoga that awakens awareness. Ramjeet will guide you through yogic postures and movements (asana) with meditative focus, breath work (pranayama), and chanting (mantra). In addition to strengthening the health and well-being of the physical body, it is very useful for emotional balance, mental clarity, stress relief, and personal transformation. In yogic tradition, Kundalini is the latent spiritual energy within every person that can be awakened by the practice of yoga.

Weekend Warrior:

We are all warriors on some level. Our Weekend Warrior compliments all the yoga practices challenging us to get out of stagnant comfort zones and explore new horizons of being-a different kind of strength. As you learn to use powerful warrior energy to quiet the mind, strengthen the body and energize the spirit, this practice will take you to your personal edge in unexpected ways.

Dharma Level I :

This is the beginning level of the Dharma Yoga series. Students will practice DY Surya Namaskar Vinyasa and be introduced to DY Shiva Namaskar Vinyasa Level I to warm up the body, bring flexibility to all muscles and joints, and wake up the nervous system. A gentle yet powerful series of balancing, stretching, back bending, twisting and mild inverted postures will follow. This practice ends with Deep Relaxation, breathing exercises, and concentration/meditation to remove impurities and bring a sense of well-being to the body and radiant peace to the mind.

Dharma Gentle :

This healing session is appropriate for all ages, who wish to finally add the healing qualities of yoga into their lives. We move the body through the classical poses very slowly, gently and conscientiously. Rests are taken between poses as the body moves towards inner introspection on a physical and meditative level. This class is highly beneficial for those returning from an illness or injury, or who haven’t moved in a long time. It is recommended for those who are looking for an easy class, are ages 50 and up, and are pre-natal. Everyone will leave feeling refreshed and relaxed. We welcome all to join the ageless loyal group, just don’t wait too long!

Classical Yoga:

A traditional class inspired by Swami Sivananda, a well recognized Indian Saint of modern times and his disciple Swami Vishnudevananda who was sent to the West to spread the knowledge of yoga. It incorporates chanting, deep breathing, sun salutations, twelve basic postures with some variation and final relaxation. It is an exact science that aims to control the mind by developing concentration and self control, thus helping to achieve a flexible and healthy mind and body .

Kids Yoga:

Classes are Playful. We include imagination, games, creative expression w/ repetition to Mastery! Kashmir Kids Yoga is a fun, approach to yoga that can be helpful for children whose bodies are still developing. A child is full of innocent wisdom and shinning light. The true essence of teaching children yoga is to help them maintain their natural wisdom and shinning light; or if their light has been dulled by events in their lives, to help them regain their inherent state of being.
